IKEA Catalogue

IKEA has a completely different approach to it's catalogue compared to many other brands, which I quite admire. The concept of the IKEA catalogue is to show the products in their desired environment, making it a lot more engaging for the viewer as the scene's already set for them. The spaces they create are all really well designed which people often aspire to, a rather smart marketing strategy done well.

The design of the catalogue works well towards it's target audience, for products like these it's seems so much more effective to see the products in use with everything else rather than just having it almost as a specifications book. This design approach also allows them to push other products that go well with others, which ultimately makes people buy more than what they had originally planned. This is something that I'll need to consider when designing my catalogue for the Leeds College of Arts shop, will I be designing it to push sales or to provide a more functional/useful guide for students?
