Taxiphone Geneva - League

Interesting publication by League -  a Switzerland based graphic design agency who designed this for Taxiphone Geneva. The use of Pantone colours and well considered layout makes this a nice editorial piece, something that is giving me some ideas on my LCA Library branding brief. Particularly like the use of the infographics involved aswell.

LV Invite design

Before I forget about this, I came across this nicely polished design for a Louis Vuitton invite designed by Jul Meme - a Swiss graphic designer who works in Tokyo. The design approach of this simply reminds me of the high end finished look that I had in mind for one of my briefs on living space. Definitely an area to start looking into when I properly get into working on them.

Branding / Business cards

In response to a short brief that was given to us last Friday; to produce our own branded business card that we would give to visiting professionals, potential employers and clients. There are some amazing and inspiring business cards out there that defy the conventional format of business cards and push the limits of print finishes, here are a selection of them that I have looked into to inform my design decisions for my own business card.

Studio Verse - an Australian based design agency established by the co-producer of Process Journal.
Identity and branding materials for Damien Aistrope.
Really liking the use of that green, very vibrant which compliments that bold typeface.

Branding for Studio Verse themselves
A nice and simple design, produced to a very high standard which almost makes the design itself.

I do like this project by  Design Friendship - A London based design agency has produced this rather nice identity for ISIS Productions; an independent film company. Nicely photographed with the floating card aswell!

Found this and couldn't resist not blogging it! Designed by Markus Mostrom, this simple design utilises strong typography and plenty of gold! Though I'm not saying gold is the solution to a great business card but this is still very nice!

Logo, stationary and menu design for Moscow based Japanese restaurant Seiji, designed by Stas Sipovich - a Europe based designer and creative director. I particularly like the simplicity and tone of the materials that have been delivered through effective use of shapes, colour and layout.
Some really nice design work going on from A Friend of Mine another Melbourne based design agency. Some inspiring identity work that they have showcased on their site.  The identity and design direction for Pixel Flix - a digital production and editing company demonstrates a great concept that has been executed well. The design reflects a the editing process through the 3 different stages of altering type. Attention to detail is evident as their is considered use of colour and embossing going on! The overall identity materials looks great.

Another by A Friend of Mine, the identity and materials are simple but works extremely well with the choice of stock and colour. Which again reminds me of the importance of thinking about the print finishes and stock choices throughout the design process.

Some solid typography by Rasmus Koch Studio, who are based in Denmark. The logo itself is simple and reflective of the client, while be able to adapt to different formats of the stationary and promotional materials throughout. Something that I definitely need to consider would be how my design would be apply to different applications.

These aren't business cards or branding, infact these are promotional materials for an event in Glasgow. Love the bright fluorescent stock that they've chosen to use for this, extremely eye catching yet still comfortable to read. (I think) Would like to try printing with fluorescent inks, possibly screenprinting or trying to stock up on some fluorescent stock to experiment with. Anyway, these are designed by Marque , a branding consultancy who produced these for the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Arts Branding.

CR Tweetup

Not long after I wrote the brief on producing a campaign that would encourage children to play more Lego, I came across this fantastic Creative Review Tweetup event, which I was a bit late to find out about! Anyway, part of the event got people to create a house with a bag of lego that was provided to them. Not only do I think this is a great idea and also a bit jealous of the people who managed to attend this event, it's kind of inspired me with a few ideas for the Lego brief that I have written.

Muji Packaging://

I have always been a fan of Muji since I first time I set foot into one of their stores, it's shame they don't really have the large variety of food in the UK stores as they do in Asia. During my last trip to Hong Kong, I managed to take a few sneaky snaps of a selection of foods available. For a brand that see themselves as 'Brandless' they've done a pretty impressive job with the application of their design direction throughout all their products with the simple labelling system and the choice of minimal packaging materials.

Summer purchase://

Recently bought the Logo book after using it and finding to be an extremely useful resource during my placement at True North. I would highly recommend this to any graphic designer, the book contains so many hundreds of logo designs, although there's not much information about each one, they've been categorised and referenced very well throughout. Going to start using this by posting up a few of my favourite brand identities a form of research in the next few days.

Beautifully designed brand identity, labelling and packaging material for the Chop Shop by Caleb Everitt who I only discovered today by chance. The choice of type, colours, layout and stock for the identity and designs actually make a butchers look fashionable! It just shows that there's no standard client if you want to produce good design, very interesting.

It's a shame that there limited information about the selection of work and the studio itself, particularly as they have a strong portfolio of work, including these nicely polished identities.

Some interesting interactive bag/packaging designs that I located via WebUrbanist.
Some really smart designs that work surprisingly well, interactive packaging such as these can be effective in drawing attention or emphasising the message, however if applied in the wrong way or inappropriately it can seem forced and can be seen a gimick more than anything.
